Introduces her three sons, Alwyn Ball, Hugh Swinton Ball, and Elias Octavius Ball, who are to enter the Academy.

Letter writer was born Martha Caroline Swinton. Taveau was the surname of her second husband, following the death of John Ball, Sr. in 1817.
